Summer Music and Dance

Embark on a magical journey to Bali, Iran & Armenia

Prepare to dance, to sing, and to be enchanted by the vibrant world of Balinese culture as Emiko Susilo, an accomplished musician and dancer, guides you through her latest creation, the children’s book Nyepi.

Then, experience the music of Iran and Armenia with a special frame drum performance by LA Daf Ensemble juxtaposed with the Armenian oud and duduk with Antranig Kzirian and Mher Mnatsakanyan.

Free with admission or membership, no registration required.

  • 3-3:45pm, Rose Garden Pavilion: Emiko Susilo, an accomplished Balinese musician and dancer, will lead traditional song and dance
  • 4-4:45pm and 5-5:45pm, Amphitheater: Enjoy a special DAF (frame drum) performance by the Iranian women’s L.A. DAF Ensemble along with an Armenian oud and duduk duo

About the performers

Emiko Susilo

An accomplished musician and dancer, Emiko Susilo is the founder and artistic director of the acclaimed Gamelan Cudamani ensemble in Bali.

LA Daf Ensemble

Led by Arezoo Koochakan, LA Daf Ensemble conveys lush musical expressions of varied timbres, tones and complex interlocking rhythms that are at once deep, resonant, and dynamic. 

Antranig Kzirian and Mher Mnatsakanyan

Antranig Kzirian, a virtuoso of the Armenian oud and Mher Mnatsakanyan, a master of the Armenian duduk, join forces in a mesmerizing musical collaboration blending deep-rooted folk traditions with the nuances of classical music and jazz genres so that every note tells a beautiful story of heritage, innovation and harmony.

Travel to Hawaii, Iran, Armenia, Brazil, and Bali through gorgeous music, dance, and story. Begin your adventure at the Rose Pavilion for a fun-filled participatory experience — learn a song’s refrain in another language, dance, draw, and listen to fascinating stories from other worlds.

Afterward, gather at the amphitheater for a vibrant celebration of music and dance performances.
